Bonnie & Clyde
A MULTIMEDIA, IMMERSIVE Dance Theater PERFORMANCE
April 30- May 8, 2026 at MATCH
Situated in the 1930s through original music, costume, lighting, projections and a stunning set by Ryan McGettigan, Open Dance Project’s Bonnie & Clyde presents a look inward at the emotional journey of two young criminals from Texas in the midst of the Great Depression. Through compelling choreography and historical details from the duo’s journals, poetry, and letters, the couple’s sensationalized drama is peeled back to reveal an intimate narrative of love, desperation, and violence.
The performance engages audience members in a multisensory experience that places them in the direct center of the theatrical moment where they are invited to sit at the cafe where Bonnie works and share a Coke and slice of pie or read a page from the Dallas Herald where the latest escapades of Bonnie and Clyde are chronicled. Audience members navigate the performance space independently, indulging their curiosity by opening letters or reading journals or stepping back to view the scene from a critical distance. An original score by Hunter Perrin and Garreth Broesche includes new arrangements of old tunes beloved by Barrow and Parker like “Deep Ellum Blues” and Jimmie Rodgers’ “Sleep Baby Sleep.” The score, like the choreography, highlights Bonnie & Clyde’s fascination with showmanship and roots the story in the popular media that glamorized their myth and overshadowed the reality of bungled robberies and failed relationships.
Bonnie & Clyde is an intimate hour long immersive production with only 40 tickets per show. The audience stands and walks through the performance. There is no traditional audience seating. The performance is wheelchair accessible. This performance is recommended for audiences aged 13 and over.
