Open Dance Project’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows Hermia as she runs away from an overbearing father into a forest filled with hapless young lovers, a feuding Fairy King and Queen, a mischievous sprite, and an uproarious band of amateur actors. This adventurous comedy filled with mishaps, misunderstandings, misdirection, and magic features aerial silks, acrobatics, and clever choreography that is sure to delight children and grown-ups alike. In The Not-So-Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm, Open Dance Project collides magical stories from the fairy-tale-esque woods of the Hessian Highlands into a dance theater performance for all ages, featuring original music by composer Steve Rashid, aerial silks and trapeze, narration, dialogue, and clever choreography with guest performances by Open Dance Project’s pre-professional ensemble ODP2. Open Dance Project’s diversely talented dancer-actors weave in and out of four beloved tales – Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and the Princess and the Frog – mesmerizing audiences with magical creatures and high-flying aerial feats as young protagonists navigate obstacles and dastardly adversaries in the woods. Open Dance Project presents the world premiere of Ghost Ship: A Pocket Book Romance Aboard the USS Intrepid (Featuring Hedy Lamarr). Set on the aircraft carrier known popularly as “The Fighting I,” this immersive wartime romance ferries audience members through time from World War II to Vietnam and back again, where they become players in the fantasies and schemes of the Intrepid’s crew. Inside long time ODP collaborator Ryan McGettigan’s multi-leveled set, dancer-crew-members slide through hatches on scuttle poles and climb the mast to the crow’s nest to peer into Bryan Ealey’s environmental projections of the ominously vast Pacific. The crewmembers’ hyper-realistic enactment of everyday moments aboard the Intrepid are haunted by past and future ghosts summoned by an original score by Paul Beebe, inspired by the radio frequency skipping technology invented by Hollywood starlet Hedy Lamarr and her avant garde composer collaborator George Antheil.
