All the Devils are Here: A Tempest in the Galapagos, directed by Annie Arnoult, is an immersive dance theater performance that collides Shakespeare’s The Tempest with the true story of an unsolved murder in the Galapagos in 1929. Filmed during a live performance, this piece presents conflicting visions of paradise, sexual and moral “rightness”, colonial instincts, and social and psychological demons, providing a rich canvas for a poignant examination of basic human rights, social justice, and power structures.
• $35 for full workshop, screening included. $15 for screening only.
• Pre-registration required for workshop, limited to 25 participants.
• Film Screening limited to 50 audience members.
• All participants must be fully vaccinated two weeks prior, and show proof of vaccination upon arrival.
All the Devils Are Here collides Shakespeare’s The Tempest with the true story of an unsolved murder in the Galapagos in 1929. This immersive dance theater performance follows the failed attempts of a nihilist couple, a conservative family, and a baroness and her two gay lovers to escape the world of man on the uninhabited island of Floreana. Their conflicting visions of Paradise, sexual and moral “rightness,” colonial instincts, and social and psychological demons lead to disaster and provide a rich canvas for a poignant examination of basic human rights, social justice, and power structures. This interactive workshop for artists and non-artists alike (dancers, actors, musicians, writers, thinkers, and art appreciators of all kinds!) guides participants through the process of devising ensemble movement, text, and physical narrative inspired by archival footage, journal entries, letters, weather maps and environmental recordings used in the performance.
Due to mature themes, the workshop is a 15+ event. Studio5 is located at 1934 Dempster Street, Evanston, IL 60202. Registration for the event is online at www.studio5.dance for $35, registration for the workshop includes admission to the screening immediately following. Admission for the screening only is $15.
